A brief history of this place, the castle ruins as its called now , began construction in 1905 but the owner died in an automobile accident in 1906 ( just how many cars were on the roads then .. ? ) and was not completed until 1922 by his son. All the stone material used in the construction was hand quarried from the 5,000 acres of his property, including all the wood for floors, beams, roofs etc. ( walnut, maple & oak - see room photos ) .
The castle also had seperate horse stables and a water tower that pumped its reserve from an under ground spring (46 million gallons flow per day @ 56 degrees year round constant temperature - last photos ) .
The family sold the castle estate and in 1942 it burned down (cause unknown) and has remained in this state of ruins ever since . The grounds are now a state park of Missouri with many trails ( lots of walking ) .
